Regional Championships 4th & 5th November Review-

Dear all,

Marlins had 11 swimmers achieve qualification times, with 8 competing at Winchester. Elsewhere, Astrid Facius was competing at London Regionals at the London Aquatic Centre.

In Winchester, the swimming started with 8 swims from 7 swimmers, resulting in 6 Season Bests, 5 Personal Bests, 1 National Qualifying Time and 1 Open Final.  Matt Metcalfe collected his first-ever NQT in the 50m Backstroke, and Luca Plater qualified for the final in 8th, improving to 7th with a strong swim.

The second session brought more success, with 5 swims from 5 swimmers producing 4 SBs, 3 PBs and 1 NQT. Lewis Murray achieved his first-ever NQT in the 50m Freestyle.

Sunday began with session 3. 6 swims produced 2 SBs and 1 PB – a substantial 4-second drop for Ross Murray in the 200 IM.

Session 4 finished the meet off strong with 7 swims producing 4 SBs, 3 PBs, 2 NQTs and 2 Finals. Ross Murray and Luca Plater swam NQTs to qualify 3rd and 4th for the 50m Butterfly final, respectively. They held position in the final to earn Ross his first Regional medal, finishing the weekend on a high!

Elsewhere at the LAC, Astrid was competing under her second club, Wandsworth. She swam the 50m and 100m Backstroke, achieving PBs and NQTs in both. Astrid swam her way into the open final for both events, earning gold as the top junior for both events while also placing 6th in the 50m and 5th in the 100m events overall, a fantastic achievement as a 14-year-old!

After this weekend, the club has 5 Winter National Qualifiers, and many student members have also achieved their times.

Congratulations

Ross Hunter
