Update from the Chairman

It has been a very busy season for everyone at Mid Sussex Marlins.  We have seen some amazing swimming and the club has reached new heights and unprecedented success.  We can all be proud to have been part of one of the most exciting years and the success just keeps on coming!

There are many highlights, both personal and for the club’s teams, from the success of our members at the County Championships resulting in Mid Sussex Marlins not only being crowned top club overall but also taking a win in every age group category, a feat never achieved before in Sussex; to the winning of the top club in many galas throughout Sussex and beyond; to success in the Squids gala; to the Masters World Champions in the 280+ age group relay and, more recently, the retaining of the Sussex League title for the A team and the winning and promotion for the B team in division two.   Many of our swimmers have produced lifetime bests and between them have become County, Regional, National, British and Irish champions!
All of this can only be achieved with the support of our magnificent volunteers and helpers, our fabulous team managers and event team, our inspiring teachers and coaches.  I would personally like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you for all you do for our club and our members; you are all stars.
We have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we have the right structure and skills in place so we can continue to grow and give all our members the opportunity to develop and enjoy aquatic sports and be part of the community.  We have recently undertaken some recruitment and development of our coaching team to support the structure and it is with great pleasure that I confirm that we have now appointed the following:
  • Andrew Hamerton – Lead Coach Masters.  Andrew is a Swim England Level 3 (development) coach.  With over 12 years experience in coaching masters and squads, specialising in stroke mechanics and advanced techniques.  He has coached swimmers to Nationals and British Championships.
  • Charlie Wood – Lead Coach Performance Squad.  Charlie is a Swim England Level 2 coach and has in depth experience in the development of key skills and the complete development of the athlete.
  • Lee Hammond – Swim Coach Competitive Squads.  Lee hold both a Level 1 & 2 qualification in teaching and coaching swimming.  Lee brings over seven years experience in developing and coaching swimmers to meet their potential and has been an important part of the club’s coaching team for a number of years.
I am sure you will join the Board in congratulating and welcoming these vital additions to our team and look forward to their contribution to our future success across all sections of the club.
Lastly, thanks for being part of Team Marlins.
