Mid Sussex Marlins are crowned Top Club in Sussex

A report on our Sussex League success by Stephen Murphy, Head Coach, Mid Sussex Marlins.

It is with great pleasure that we can, for the 2017/ 2018 season, call ourselves the undisputed top club in Sussex!

On Saturday the 19th May our club regained the Sussex League trophy which has capped a very successful season for Mid Sussex Marlins. This is now the second time our club has won the Sussex League title and this time we did it impressively, winning by almost 90 points! Across all three rounds our A team had an incredible 64% win rate.

Our B team also improved fantastically to place second in division two only just missing promotion. Against some stiff A team opposition, across the three rounds, our B team had an impressive win ratio of 43%.

Our Sussex League win caps off a great season in which we were crowned;

  • Sussex League Champions 2018
  • Overall top Club in Sussex County Championships 2018
  • Top Age Group Club in Sussex County Championships 2018
  • Sussex Relay Champions 2018
  • Winners of National Arena League Division One East 2017 and promoted to Premier Division

It takes a lot of hard work to build and prepare teams that can achieve this type of result and I would like to thank the coaches, the swimmers, team managers, event support staff and parents for the support and hard work given through the series and day to day in the club. We can’t achieve a performance such as this without all parts coming together as a team!

Les Hawkey, Mid Sussex Marlins Chairman, had this message after Round three. “Well done everyone, it is a great achievement against the best in Sussex. Congratulations, you did us proud. Roll on next year”.

We now have to build on our success and develop to ensure our club can continue to thrive and perform consistently to a high level and face the exciting challenges we have to come in the new season!
