Mid Sussex Marlins took its largest team yet to the South East Region Winter Short Course Open Championships in Portsmouth.
The championships took place over the weekend of the 2/3rd of November and, as always, produced some fast racing and excellent demonstrations of swimming skills. The club had 19 swimmers in attendance at the meet, a significantly higher number from last year and one of the largest teams in attendance in the region.
Over the weekend four swimmers picked up medals which included:
- Gold for Sophie Shaw in the 200m backstroke in a time of 2.13.3
- Silver for Sophie Maguire in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.02.24
- Bronze for Amelia Stone in the Junior 100m IM in a time of 1.07.09
- Bronze for Michael Edwards in the Junior 50m Breastroke in a time of 30.9
There were a high number of personal best times produced over the weekend along with more Winter National qualifying times and the meet also provided some valuable experience for some first time qualifiers to the event.
It was also great to see our club taking on the volunteer duties during session two with all six non-technical volunteers coming from Mid Sussex Marlins during this session.
Based on her performances at the meet Sophie Shaw has been selected to represent the South East region team next February at the regional off shore camp / Euro meet in Luxembourg! A fantastic achievement and well deserved recognition for all the hard work and commitment to her swimming.
