A great Arena League season rounded off with the Bees promoted!

A report by Stephen Murphy…

Now that the 2018 Arena league campaign has drawn to a close we can look back on it and the year
of 2018 in general and reflect with pride and much to celebrate.

For our A team it was their first year in the South premier division, one of the toughest leagues in
the country as is highlighted by the top 5 finishers qualifying for the National final in the 2017/2018
season.  Despite the strong competition our team held their own in every round, unphased by the
challenges and working hard as a team to produce quality results. This was capped off by a third
place finish in round three, pushing the team into 9th place in the league overall, a massive
achievement that the team can build on into next season.

Our B team, competing in South Div 2 East, showed their strength from round 1 all the way through
the campaign with some fantastic performances, high quality racing and strong relay team through
the three rounds.  The final round culminated in a victory and winning the league in style.  A true
show of strength in depth, team work and drive from our swimmers!  It’s worth noting that in 2014,
and again in 2015, our A and only team at the time placed 11th in South Div 1;  the league our B team now find themselves in!

Below are some highlights from 2018 for our Mid Sussex Marlins teams:

  • Top-half finish (9th) in the National Arena League South Premier Division 2018 for our A Team in our first season as this level;
  • B Team – Winners of National Arena League Division Two East 2018 and promoted to Division One;
  • Sussex League Champions 2018;
  • Airtech Relay Gala Winners 2018;
  • Overall top Club in Sussex County Championships 2018;
  • Sussex Relay Champions 2018.

To add to this we have won top club trophies at the VK memorial meet in Bognor, the Ken Deeley
meet in Brighton and the Atlantis xmas cracker! All in we have given hundreds of swimmers across
the whole club the chance to wear our Blue Hat with pride and to compete for Mid Sussex Marlins.
