| Annabel and Ollie at Age Group Regionals K2 |
|
Sorry for delay to this report. There has been techical issues with the press officers comp. Here with a report from coach Paul Blyth :- The Regions Best Age Group swimmers recently attended the 2011 ASA SER British Gas Age Group Championships held at K2 in Crawley and two of our own swimmers, Annabel Curtis and Ollie Goodhew from Junior Gold were there competing and flying the flag for Marlins.
Annabel had qualified in the 100 Free, 100m and 200m Breaststroke and showed her usual determination in competing to the best of her ability.
Competing in long course events takes time to adjust to and in the future with more 50m training Annabel has the talent to compete with the very best in her age group.
Ollie had qualified in 9 events 100m/200m/400m and 1500 Free, 200 & 400 IM, 100m & 200m Back and 100m Breast.
So that meant that Ollie was there over the entire championships competing and indeed competing with lots of effort and determination.
Indeed he decided to drop the 100m Breast so he could concentrate on the 1500 Free.
Ollie had completed some fanatstic swims over the first 3 days notching up long course pb's in every event, qualifying for finals, winning a Silver Medal in the 200m Back and
achieving a faster NQT in 2.24.07 in the event, and also converting his Short Course NQT into a Long Course NQT after winning the Gold Medal in the 100m Back in 1.06.54.
Coming into the last day Ollie was in 3rd place for the Age Group BagCats, and had one swim left in the 1500m Free when others around him had 2 or 3 swims left.
Ollie swam a 5 sec PB in the 1500 to achieve a PB in every swim and at the end of a compelling and tough Championships was in a well deserved 4th place.
A great achievement for this up and coming swimmer.
If you were to ask him how it went he would probably just gently smile at you and say ok.
However, if he was to pick the one race that gave him most pleasure I bet it would be the 100m Back.
As for Olympic year 2012 we need to see more Marlins swimmers at the these Championships to compete along side Annabel and Ollie.
