| Marlins up for County Champs |
|
Swimmers the length and breadth of Sussex are currently busy preparing for the 2010 ASA County Championships, which are being held at K2 in Crawley over the coming week ends. This yearly celebration of competitive swimming incorporates 143 events over 10 sessions on ending on Sunday 14th March 2010. Sussex County ASA always prepare and execute a professional competition and 2010 promises nothing less. John Ottaway and Liz Hartley and their team look after programming and swimmer invites while Deedee Pickering looks after securing the many officials needed for each race. Front of house Brian Smith (Brighton S C) will be announcing from the balcony, most swimming regulars will recognise his voice.
Many hours will have gone into producing this event and the Marlins send their thanks to the ASA.
Marlins have a squad of 47 swimmers qualifying for Counties all determined to swim a PB or go even better and take a podium place. Head Coach Beth Ross, speaking after training on 16th Feb, says ' after a slow start to 2010 with snow causing pool closures the team are now fully focused on counties. The squad are working hard on technique, starts and turns'. 'We have had a brilliant session tonight! '
We focus on 9 year old Emma Shilton Burgess Hill School for Girls and Louis Curtis Cumnor House School who are the youngest members of the county team. Both have been club members since the formation of the Marlins in 2007 and have progressed through the ranks and are currently in the 'Mini Squad'. They are nervous but very excited to be swimming against other County newcomers and club wish them good luck in their upcoming adventure |
