On Saturday 9th November Marlins had two teams competing in round 2 of the National Arena League (NAL). Our A team were competing at Guildford and our B team were at home.
Coming into round 2 our A team lay joint seventh out of 18 in the Premier Division South and our B team were joint 13th out of 18 in Division 1 East; so a really good start to our campaign and all to play for in round 2. So, the scores on the doors from Round 2 were:
- Guildford City A 253
- Thanet A 191
- Mid Sussex Marlins A 181
- Guildford City B 144
- Beckenham A 143
- Rushmoor Royals B 137
What a fantastic result for our A’s against such tough competition.
- Hastings Seagull 227
- Maidstone 216
- Sevenoaks B 178
- Erith & District 174
- Mid Sussex Marlins B 137
- Shepway 108
The B team once again proved they can compete at their new higher level in Division One and put in some great swims to finish 5th.
Following the Gala’s our Head Coach Steve Murphy commented:
“Both our teams have now shown their fighting spirit and determination to succeed in their respective leagues. On Saturday evening our A team took on what was arguably the most competitive team gala the Club has faced in recent years. The swimmers gave their 100% all evening and we finished a credible 3rd place once again very close behind 2nd place. This result means that the A team have once again secured the club’s place in the premier league and will race out in round three to try and achieve our highest place yet in the league currently sitting joint 7th.
Our B team, racing in division one and competing mostly against clubs A teams, put up a great fight to show Marlins’ strength and depth and how far we have come over the past few years. The B team achieved a credible 5th place and will go into round three looking to secure our place in division 1 currently sitting joint 13th. On behalf of myself and the coaching team I must reiterate how proud we are of the team and how important swimmer availability is for the third and final round in December.”
As Steve highlighted after Round 2 our teams have held their R1 positions so our As are still joint seventh out of 18 in the Premier Division and our Bs are joint 13th out of 18 in Division 1 East.
So for Round 3, having guaranteed their place in the Premier Division for 2020, our As have the chance to push on for our highest finish yet in the Premier Division. For our Bs we will be in the Gala where 3 of the 6 teams competing will be demoted to Division 2, however after the first two rounds we are ranked 2nd in this Final Gala so we have every chance to stay up. We do however need to make sure all swimmers are available for selection by the coaches to give us the best chance of hitting both targets.
Well done Marlins, you should be proud of what you have achieved so far. Let’s give Round 3 our all #GoMarlins
