It’s that time of the year again, when the amazing team of Mid Sussex Marlins SC disability swimmers made their way to Bognor Regis, to participate in the annual swimming gala, hosted by Sussex Squids. The Marlins team of twelve fantastic swimmers did extremely well, sweeping in an abundance of awards between them.
Once again, Richard Sambrook triumphed, retaining his Senior Boys trophy and Senior Individual Medley trophy for yet another year running, as well as adding three gold and two silver individual medals to his collection. Sam Loft joined the team for his first gala, and rightfully received the Special Achievement trophy for his honourable swims, as well as a bronze medal. Racing remarkably, Domenico Capaldi-Drewett snatched both the Junior Boys trophy and the Male Achievement trophy, in addition to his one bronze, one silver and three gold medals for the individual events.
The impressive squad also included Mark Williams, Josh Savva, Alfie Penfold, Louis Moyes, Reece Meyer, Matthew McMillan, Tom Giles, Peter McCleery and Stephen Bayliss, each of whom played a very valuable part in the team successes.
Working as a team proved positive: all the relay teams won, resulting in gold medals all round, as well as trophies for both the freestyle relay and medley relay, with most of the swimmers taking part in these events. Many Personal Bests were obtained by a number of the team members too – some outstanding times recorded.
Once again, the hosting team, Sussex Squids, won the overall competition.
As always, the Club is very proud of this incredible team of swimmers, particularly seeing their improvements and excellence at events like this. A huge well done to each and every swimmer who participated, and hopefully they will return to swim next year!
